The Portrait Session Experience

Curious what a photo session with me looks like? Let me give you an overview so you know what to expect (complete with photos of my face so you can feel like you’re getting to know me already)!

  1. Consult. We’ll have a quick chat over the phone, email, or in person to learn more about each other and how I can help you. It’s important to determine if we’re going to be a great fit for each other before you book and my goal is that this consult will bring you clarity either way. I’ll ask you questions about your needs and will answer any questions you have, share product and pricing options, and offer guidance on the next steps when you’re ready to proceed. The consult is completely free to you and will come pressure-free. If you decide to book, I’ll be invoicing you for the sitting fee/retainer and sending you a contract to sign.

2. Planning. Once you’ve officially booked by paying the sitting fee/retainer and signed the contract, we’ll get to planning. During the planning period will be when we personalize the photoshoot to you and your unique brand. Typically I’ll send you a questionnaire to answer, but if you prefer chatting over the phone or in person, we can do that instead. We’ll discuss how you want to be photographed, what to wear, what to bring, and how to prepare. Together, we’ll talk about your style and vision, as well as your plans for your photographs and design a photoshoot customized to your needs. The sooner we get started on planning, the better, so you have time to shop for or rent any outfits you have in mind. Sessions are usually booked two weeks out at a minimum.

3. The Photoshoot. When you arrive either on location or to my studio, we’ll go through your outfits and any props/items you brought with you. You’ll either go into Hair and Makeup with your artist if you opted in for that, or we’ll get started on your session right away. I’ll tell you which outfit to change into and when so you don’t have to guess. I don’t expect you to come in knowing how to model so don’t feel nervous if you’re feeling uncomfortable. I’ll be guiding you through posing and prompts from start to finish and make it easy for you. I’m betting you’re going to feel so confident and by the end of the session!

4. The Photo Reveal. This final session will come about 14-16 days after your photo session when I’ve finished editing your portraits. We’ll schedule an online or in person photo reveal (which takes about 45 minutes) where we’ll go through your photos together and you’ll select your favorites to purchase. If you need any further editing on your final selections, you’ll let me know at this time. Once your final photos are paid for, you’ll receive a link to download the images right away! Any prints or products will be ordered and delivered within 14-18 days.

And there’s your portrait session! We’ll keep it light, creative, fun, and easy. Even those of you who claim to not be photogenic will end up having fun by the end, I can just about guarantee it! Come find out for yourself!
