Meet Melanie, owner and official creator of Roots Revival Herbal. Melanie says “I’m a holistic health specialist, natural medicine enthusiast, crunchy mama, wisdom seeker, nature lovin’, budding herbalist. I completed my Bachelor’s in Alternative Medicine, have begun my Reiki attuning, and currently am enrolled in the stellar Evolutionary school of Herbalism’s ‘Vitalist Herbal Practitioner’ program. (Nature is my greatest teacher).

My intention is to awaken the healing power within by creating pure plant-based products that allow the vital intelligence of plants to support and nourish the bodies’ innate healing system.”

I spent a day following Mel around with my camera, asking questions, and documenting part of her processes and taking portraits for her along the way.

Q: What is Roots Revival, and how did it come to be?

Melanie: Roots and root networks within nature are absolutely fascinating. They provide grounding, structure, nourishment, plus allow for plants to connect and communicate with each other. Humans have root structures too, their base constructs and systems are so amazingly complex and intelligent that they can outsmart the greatest chemists and doctors. For example, the immune system which can adapt and defend against millions of threats throughout a human life span, when properly working.
The problem lies in “when working properly”, for we as humans have evolved to a superficial level of understanding and connection with our own bodies, and have become scarily dependent on a very flawed, broken medical paradigm that puts pills and procedures over prevention.

We have lost touch with our ability to listen to our bodies, to know some pain is natural, and that we don’t need to suppress or shut off every symptom that arises with harsh man-made chemicals.
Roots Revival is less of a business and more of an intentional holistic lifestyle. The products and ideals are for those willing to get down in the nitty-gritty soil of their beings, nourish their roots, and heal from within. 
This is not a bandaid symptomatic treatment, even for acute conditions, for nature provides remedies that contain the same elements as humans makeup, the same vital healing forces needed to gently encourage, support, and aid the bodies’ natural healing forces.

Q: What are you currently creating?

Melanie: Currently I am crafting a wonderful immune tonifying syrup featuring echinacea and elderberry.
I am also creating a tincture line, the headliners being one for stress/anxiety/sleep, and one for respiratory support. All of which seem to be needed in this season of life, for the common environmental stresses we are all facing.

Q: What inspires you to create these products?

Melanie: I would say nature is my greatest inspiration, the more time I spend outdoors observing and learning, the more I open to her amazingly powerful healing potential.

My intuition takes the spark from nature to the creation phase. This is where usually a certain herb or a two will really stand out and talk to me, and I allow them to act as the catalysts for formulation. I am always thinking about the intent and effect the plants will produce in the body, a strong aid to the body but still a gentle remedy.

I am an avid learner and make sure to do as much research as possible on the herbs to ensure safety and efficacy. That being said, there is no one size fits all pill or potion, so for example, while there may be a powerful sleep aid like valerian that knocks out some, it actually can stimulate others.
Therefore, in the future, I will offer individual formulations based on one’s constitution and specific needs.
